Editorial policy

Local Design Journal aims to be accurate, independent and candid about what can and cannot be concluded from visible design. Our editorial choices are made for readers, not for a partner or product.

Accuracy and evidence

We check factual claims against reliable material appropriate to the subject and take care not to turn a visual impression into an asserted fact. When a point depends on missing context, we say so. We do not claim that an illustration, example or explanation represents a particular real project unless that is established in the article.

Independence and partnerships

Editorial decisions remain separate from commercial arrangements. Paid, sponsored or partner material is labelled clearly where it appears, and the label is not hidden in vague wording. A partnership does not guarantee favourable coverage, a review, or editorial approval of a partner's claims.

Corrections

Readers can report a suspected error through the Contact page. We assess correction requests against the available information, amend material when warranted and make significant changes clear to readers. We do not alter an accurate account simply because someone dislikes its conclusions.

Images and illustration

Images are selected to support the subject rather than to imply evidence they do not provide. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; when used, they are treated as illustrations, not photographs or documentation of a real place.

Our point of view

Design is never just decoration

A handle, sign or doorway makes a claim about how something should be used. We look for the decisions behind that claim, including who benefits and what gets overlooked.
